Neil Jason bass solo during Brecker Brothers “Some Skunk Funk” Live 1980
Neil Jason’s bass solo during “Some Skunk Funk” Live 1980 with the Brecker Brothers band in Norway. Check out Neil’s work on Micheal Franks’ “The Camera Never Lies”, “Passionfruit” and “Skin Dive”, on John Tropea’s “NYC Direct”, on Bob James “Lucky Seven” , Steve Gadd’s “Gadd About” and David Sanborn’s “Hideaway” to name a few. His use of chorus effect on track one, “Face To Face” on Micheal Franks’ “The Camera Never Lies” is beautiful from the second the song starts and the slap lines he plays during 2:27 to 3:04 of the song are very cool. Check out his slap line at 3:53!!!! Overall II recommend using headphones when listening to hear all of his nuances.

Here I am in the process of learning the head (main theme) from Some Skunk Funk by The Brecker Brothers. The version I’m playing along to is found here: youtube.com Left-click here for my transcription: hem.passagen.se The guitar doesn’t actually play the melody all the way through, but I decided to do so just for the great challenge of it. I bet some of you kick-ass players out there can do this while sleeping, but to me this is very difficult and I still have a long way before I can play it perfectly (if ever…) – hope you can enjoy this great music anyway!
